John Mel started off strong winning all of his heats leading up to the final at the 2015 Surfing America US Championships. It was a beautiful, hot and sunny day at Lower Trestles in San Clemente. Waves were pumping about 3-4 feet for the finals. Starting the final heat John opened up on set wave. Receiving a 9.1 on a left John displayed his radical forehand hack and combination of solid turns finished with an air reverse. John then backed it up, ending the heat with 5.9 right hander to seal his victory as u16 Surfing America US Champion.
